Coolhurst Road, Highgate
A substantial Victorian house positioned on a corner site with an abundance of natural light. The first floor layout had been previously altered to create a master suite with an awkward configuration and open-front hanging storage and shelves.
Our brief was to reorganise the first floor to create a contemplative and tranquil master suite and guest shower room.
We began by reconfiguring the walk-in wardrobe to wrap around the corner of the house, which provided a direct connection to the bathroom. The wardrobe was lined on one side with full height hanging storage fronted with ‘scalloped’ doors, and the opposite wall fitted with cupboards below the window.
In the bathroom, we made a centre-piece of the existing cast-iron bath. We also constructed a larger shower enclosure and repositioned the existing basin.
A restrained colour palette was used throughout the first floor. We retained the existing floorboards, repairing and painting them white to correspond with the white walls and joinery.
